I joined the Army 17 June 1968. Went to Basic and Advanced training at Ft. McClellan, AL.

Then on to Ft Knox, Ky. for 2 years as permanent party.  I was working in an office then went to Ft Sam Houston, Tx as permanent party.  I was WAC of the month and Soldier of the month in March 1971.

My 1 ^st job was at an office at Ft. Knox, Ky. One of the officers came up to me with a piece of paper in his hand and asked me to burn it.  I thought I had better ask what he meant. He said make a Xerox copy of it. I thought he really meant to burn. Good thing I asked.  I was transferred to another office the MSG had me sit down at a rickety old manual typewriter.  He gave me something to type the keys were hard to push and the typewriter rocked because it only had three legs on it. When I finished typing, he checked it over. Said that will do. Then he said I would be using an electric typewriter.  Thank goodness. I ended my tour of duty of 3 years 16 June 1968 at Ft Sam Houston, Tx.

On 30 April 1973 I joined the Army Reserves. It was an MP unit.  I was the first and only female for 14 months. I pulled duty at many Forts: Ft. McClellan, Al., Los Alamitos, Ca., Ft Huachuca, AZ., Ft Lee, Va., Ft Eustis, VA., Ft. Monroe, VA. and many others.

I liked going on tours of duty. I learned many different jobs in the administrative field, went many places and worked with and met many people throughout the US, who are still my friends. My goal was to retire from the service. I went from PUI to SFC during my service. I am proud to have served my country and I would have done it all again if I had the chance.
