Mary Louise Snider age 86 passed peacefully to her final rest on June 16 2012 following an unexpected illness. She was predeceased by her beloved soul mate and husband of 52 years Melville Cottet Snider and her sister Evelyn Sue Jansing. As a premature infant born in 1925 in Charleston MO she was not expected to live. However as would prove to be true throughout her life when faced with medical challenges she not only survived under the loving care of her parents as a child Leighton and Lena (Creed) Shelby but overcame cancer two times and open- heart surgery to live a full and active adult life. She graduated from high school at 16 and worked in Springfield Illinois where at 19 she met Mel at a USO sponsored dance. They married after a whirlwind six week courtship and moved to California following WWII. There she began a long and proud career as a secretary and administrative assistant at Mare Island Naval Shipyard Napa Tannery City of Napa and Fort Campbell Army Base. She received numerous awards for meritorious service and performance excellence. She and her husband took up the game of golf when the "nest was empty" playing courses throughout California and then moved to Clarkesville TN for the retirement phase of life. A lifelong Presbyterian and strong in her faith she joined and was active in her much loved First Presbyterian Church of Clarkesville TN. Louise was able to make friends wherever she went including her golf leagues in Napa California and in Clarkesville TN and through her church activities and avid interest in the game of bridge. She served as a hospital volunteer (Pink Lady) at Queen of the Valley Hospital Napa California and at Gateway Medical Center (Breast Health Center) Clarkesville TN. She loved social activities especially when those involved dancing learning and simply having fun. Louise loved being a Mom to her daughter Pamela Patrick and was thrilled to be grandmother to Evan and Brendan. Being their "MaMaw" brought great joy to her life and she spoke with pride about her family whenever an opportunity arose to do so. She moved to Holly Hill Florida in 2011 to be near her family and had great enjoyment in setting up and shopping for her new home. She made new friends there and thoroughly enjoyed the many activities she participated in at Bishop's Glen. Survivors include her daughter Pam her grandsons Evan and Brendan Patrick and "the best son-in-law ever" John Patrick. Her step-son Alan Cottet Dare (Ceil) became part of her life in her later years and brought her much joy. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her nieces Judy Taub (Harry) and Carole Deaver (Brad) of St. Louis MO. Interment will be at Bellevue Memorial Park where her ashes will be placed next to the ashes of her beloved husband Mel.
