Mary Ann Mathews died at home, Friday afternoon, February 21, 2014, after a lengthy illness. Mary Ann was a warm, caring, Christian, family woman. Born September, 19, 1925, in Dunedin, Fla to Mary Gertrude (Heal) and Charles Hadley Shaw. She attended Dunedin High School, and graduated from the Emory University School of Nursing, class of 1943, in June of 1946, as a registered nurse. She was married to William Hugh "Doc" Mathews, from Jacksonville, on November 29, 1945. Mary Ann was content to remain at home and raise their three sons. Mary Ann would eventually work in her husband's office when his nurse was on vacation.

Those that knew Mary Ann, were aware that she was involved with the Women's Auxilary and served as President. She was in charge of the high school breast care and examination program in the state of Florida. She was also a member of the Garden Club of Jacksonville, which led her to be involved with the altar guilds at Riverside Park UMC, and at Palm Coast UMC. At the same time she was an active member of the adult choirs and was a respected and accomplished soloist (alto). She also loved playing golf with "Doc", dressing alike and everywhere they went expressing their love for each other! As Doc made his climb toward our Creator, Mary Ann was holding his hand and their faith was so strong.

Mary Ann is survived by her three sons and their wives, Gary (Charlotte)-Talla-hassee, FL, Mark (Frances)-Jacksonville, FL and Rick (Valerie)-Palm Coast, FL and Dawsonville, GA. Also survived by her grandchildren, Melissa Mathews McClarren-Jacksonville, FL, Mark Mathews, Jr. (Melissa)-Jacksonville, FL, Scott Mathews (predeceased), Evan Mathews (Susie)- Tallahassee, FL and Kelby Mathews Steele (Kyle)-Tallahassee, FL, and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial services for Mary Ann will be March 15th, at 2 p.m., at Palm Coast United Methodist Church. Memorial donations can be made to the Tallahassee Chapter of the Compassionate Friends, 2198 N Meridian Rd, Tall. Fla. 32303.
