Mary Kathryn "Kay" Tate, 90, of Ormond Beach, passed away on March 2, 2016 at Good Samaritan Society Florida Lutheran in Deland, FL. She was born on April 11, 1925 in Glen Richey, PA to the late Andrew and Clara Johnson.
A Visitation will be held from 11:00am until 1:00pm on Saturday March 5, 2016 in the Chapel at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond. The Service will be at 1:00pm immediately following the visitation. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Ormond Beach, FL.
Kay Tate went to Loch Haven State Teachers College in PA and received her Bachelors Degree from Kent State in OH. Kay taught Senior High School English in Ohio, and then moved to this area in 1967 from Ohio. She owned and operated motels in Ormond and Daytona Beach. Kay also owned "Grammy's Quilt Shoppe", a local landmark in Ormond Beach for over twenty years.
Survivors include her three children, Peggie Tate Barnes of Alpharetta, GA, Jack (Karen) Tate of Apopka, FL and Bill (Debbie) Tate of Deland, FL; Six grandchildren, Sandi Cabezas, Andrew "Drew" Tate, Jackie Schneck, Ashley Swindell, Jennifer Davis and Joseph Tate; Eight great-grandchildren, Zachary and Matthew Sisk, Dylan and Joslyn Schneck, Avery and Brayden Swindell and Kayley and Taylor Davis.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack Tate; her second husband, A. Oliver Bell; Kay's siblings, Harold "Jack" Johnson, Andrew James "Jim" Johnson and Clara Louise Johnson Hurd; and her great-grandson, Manuel William Cabezas.
Kay was a loving mother and grandmother, and was lovingly known as "Grammy" to everyone.
