Obituary

Mary Ann Harwell of Port Orange died Tuesday at Port Orange Hospice after a long illness. She was 83.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., March 1, 2014, at First United Methodist Church, 305 Dunlawton Ave., Port Orange.

Mrs. Harwell was born in Pocahontas, Arkansas, on June 25, 1930. She was a graduate of Pocahontas High School and Stephens College in Columbia, MO. She was married in June, 1951, to Walter H. (Gus) Harwell Jr., who survives her.

She is also survived by her daughter, Suzanne (Tom) Walters; three grandchildren, Loren (Jason) Joiner of Crawfordville, FL., Nicole (Joe) Poznanski of Orlando, and David Walters (Tiffany) of Bruchmhlbach-Miesau, Germany, and great-grandchildren Sara, Jake, Shelby, Justin, Matthew and Tristan Joiner and Inara Rose Poznanski. Her son, Walter III, died in 1974.

Mrs. Harwell had lived in Port Orange since 1995, when her husband retired from Knight Ridder Newspapers in Miami. She was especially fond of visiting national parks and musical shows in Branson, MO.
