Mary Gallagher, 71, of Ormond Beach, FL passed away July 29, 2015. Mary was born December 24, 1943 in Buffalo, New York to Ruby (Collins) and Ralph Schwartz. Mary moved to Daytona Beach, FL in 1959. She graduated from Seabreeze High School in 1961.

Mary attended Daytona State College and received an Associates of Science in Nursing in 1976. She served our community as a Registered Nurse for 30 years. Mary began her nursing career at Ormond Memorial in critical care. In 1983, she began working at Halifax Medical Center as the Protocol Coordinator for the Clinical Community Oncology Program. Mary was a Nationally Certified Oncology Nurse (OCN). She was a charter member of the local Oncology Nurses Society. Mary participated in various support and treatment programs to include "We Can Weekend" and "Look Good Feel Good" that helped and supported cancer patients, their family members, and loved ones.

Mary had a great sense of humor and brought peace and joy to those around her. She attended "Clown College" and her character "Little Bit" brought happiness to all. Mary was a true artist; she enjoyed painting, reading, quilting, karate, and traveling. Mary is most remembered by her friends and family as someone that would put others needs before her own.

Mary is survived by her children: Penny Parks (Jeff), Joe Gallagher (Amber), and Danny Gallagher (Lisa). Grandchildren: Victoria and Sydney Parks, Amanda and Joey Gallagher, Madison and Regan Gallagher. Father: Ralph (Bud) Schwartz and brothers, Paul (Venita) and Brian (Gloria) Schwartz.

A Service of Remembrance will be celebrated on Thursday, August 6, 2015 6 p.m. at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond; 733 W. Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach. The family will receive friends from 4-6 prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts in Mary's memory be given to the Halifax Hospice, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, Florida, 32129, or on the web at www.hovf.org.
