Mary Clare Flaherty, (93), of Ormond Beach, FL. passed peacefully on May 15, 2026 surrounded by her loving family.

Born on August 29, 1932 in Rochester, New York Mary Clare, fondly known as Clare, was the daughter of Louis and Marcella Weider. Clare Flaherty graduated from Nazareth High School and went on to devote her life to her family.

She will be remembered above all for her sense of humor, her infectious smile and laughter, and her love of tennis. She found special joy in gardening, music, tennis, golfing, teaching five-year olds how to play tennis, and rescuing kittens. She loved a good Manhattan with maraschino cherries, cooking Sunday dinners, and traveling with her girlfriends. In the 1980’s, she proudly won the Tomoka Oaks doubles championship alongside her teammates, a reflection of her competitive spirit and her love of the game.

Clare Flaherty was predeceased by her husband, Thomas J. Flaherty; parents Louis and Marcella Weider; and her sister, Barbara Gramkee. She is survived by her children, Colleen Flaherty, Christine Thomas, and Timothy Flaherty; her grandchildren, Matthew Thomas, Colby Blum, Kaitlin Blum, Amanda Flaherty, and Zachery Robinson, and her three great grandchildren, Madison, Mackenzie, and Myles. Clare is also survived by her sisters Bernadette and MaryLou, and a host of extended family and friends.

Clare’s family will host a celebration of her life service on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 11:00 am with a reception to follow. The service will be held at Lohman Funeral Home, 733 W. Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach, FL. 32174, (386) 673-1100. Friends and family are invited to attend and share their favorite memories of Clare.
