Obituary

Mary Ellen Duncan Anderson passed peacefully at Volusia Florida Hospice in Port Orange on March 11, 2015. She was.

Mary Ellen spent her childhood and early adult life camping and summering on Lake Erie. She married Charles Wesley Anderson on April 20, 1943. Trained as a ward clerk, she worked at the Ellwood City Hospital during World War II, and at U.S. Steel in Ellword City, PA. In 1963, Mary Ellen and Charles moved to Belle Vernon, PA, where she worked did office work and supervised the floor at Hills Department. In 1979, they moved to Williamstown, WV where she worked in the payroll department at Fenton Art Glass.

Mary Ellen and Charles retired to Port Orange in 1983, where she enjoyed sailing, the beach, volunteering at the Port Orange Library, and most of all she enjoyed attending the dances at Colony in the Wood with Charles until his death in 2005. Her interests also included painting and making stained glass artwork. She attended craft fairs to showcase a 1929 Ford Model A with her husband.

She will be remembered for her zest for life, sense of humor and loyalty to friends and family. Mary Ellen and her daughter, April, treasured the years they lived together at Colony in the Wood.

Mary Ellen was predeceased by her husband, Charles Wesley Anderson; her mother, Genevieve (Dolter) Duncan; her father, James Arthur Duncan; daughter, Cynthia Sue Anderson; and a brother, William Arthur Duncan. Surviving is a daughter, April Rae Anderson of Port Orange; two nieces, Sally Gillespie Householder and Nancy Marrow Tate; and three nephews, James Gillespie, David Owens and Robert Owens.

A ceremony of remembrance will be held at Colony in the Wood at 1:30 p.m. April 11 2015 in the clubhouse. Private burial will be at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. Donations may be made to the Ellwood City Fire Department, Volusia-Flagler Hospice, or a charity of choice.
