Martin Roy' Williamson Jr. passed away peacefully at his home in Port Orange with his wife by his side on February 28 2011 at the age of 95. A Graveside Service in Roy's honor will be held on Thursday March 3 2011 at 1PM at DAYTONA MEMORIAL PARK 1425 Bellevue Avenue Daytona Beach FL. Roy was born in Montgomery AL on April 10 1915 son to the late Martin Roy Williamson Sr. & Nellie (Gallaspie) Williamson. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 33 years Trudy (Gertrude Jackson) Williamson; his sons Bill Williamson (Linda) of Casselberry FL; Bob Williamson (Monica) of Chuluota FL; and Michael Williamson of Casselberry FL; his grandchildren Matt Brianna Mike Lindsey & Jay; his close cousin Laura DeLong & her family; his niece Louise Wallace & her family; his sister-in-law Lin Williamson Clark of Stuart FL; and he is predeceased by his brother Bill Williamson. Roy was raised in Florida and attended Plant City H.S. in Tampa FL and was an Eagle Scout. As a young boy Roy and his friend built a sail boat and sailed from St. Pete to Cuba in a Regatta. He graduated from the University of Florida earning a B.A. degree in Business in 1938. While in college he was Captain of the Golf Team and a member of the ROTC program involved in the ATO fraternity and he was also a Junior State Golf Champion. He was also a member of the Rotary & Kiwana's Clubs. After college he began working for Met-Life however was soon drafted serving in WWII landing in Omaha Beach then fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was with the 283rd Field Artillery Battalion as Captain of Battery "C" and Division Artillery Supply Officer & commanded firing battery for the Army. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his extraordinary service to our U.S. Military. After serving our country Roy resumed his career with Met-Life and traveled to New York working with various agents and gained leadership skills. He returned to Florida as District Sales Manager and retired in Winter Park FL. After retirement Roy continued his love for golf and boating. He served as Commodore twice for the Daytona Beach Boat Club and also was a member of the Halifax Cruise Club. He was also involved in the American Legion and was an active member of the United Community Methodist Church in Daytona Beach. Roy celebrated his life with many close friends & family and will be treasured and missed by many. Special thanks to Hospice of Volusia Flagler especially Nadia Beverly Lynn and Mark Spivey.
