Martha Frances Atkinson age 91 of Daytona Beach Shores was born into eternal life on Friday July 29 2005 at her residence. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday August 3 2005 at 1:00 PM at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona Chapel with Rev. Bob Moorehead officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Interment will follow at Daytona Memorial Park Daytona Beach.
Martha was born February 22 1914 to Major and Lilla Garris in Portsmouth VA. She moved to the Daytona Beach area in 1989 from Jacksonville Fl. She attended the Drive In Church in Daytona Beach Shores. Martha was a tournament bridge player in her younger days and even when she moved to Daytona Beach she continued to play for a few more years. At the age of 14 Frances went to work in Trants drug in Portsmouth VA where she was raised. She later moved to Washington DC where she became the first women manager of a drug store for the Leggett Drug Co. in the United States. At the Leggett Drug Co. is where she met her now deceased husband Frank. They moved to Jacksonville where they opened Atkinson?s Pharmacy in 1952. From there they opened seven more in the Jacksonville area. There is still a store that still bears the Atkinson?s name. Upon retirement she moved to Daytona in 1989 where she again took up bridge playing for enjoyment. Her family was the center of her life.
She is predeceased by her Husband Frank Atkinson.
Left to cherish her memories are niece Linda DeenJoy Port Orange; Nephews Leon Marable Gail R.O. AtkinsonBetty; Great-Niece April Hesselton; Great-Nephew Michael Deen; Great-Great nieces Jessica Michele; and Great- Great Nephew Brandon.
