Funeral services for Marlin W. Magee will be held Monday January 15 2007 at the First Baptist Church of Daytona Beach at 11 am with Brother Louis Lucas officiating. His family will receive friends in the church from 10 am till time of service. His entombment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
Marlin an educator for 41 years was born in Tylertown MS. He received a BS degree in Math and Science from the University of Southern Mississippi an MA degree in Administration from the University of Mississippi and did Post-graduate work at Louisiana State University and the University of Florida.
Marlin's first job was at Enon High School as Principal of the school math/science teacher and boy's basketball coach. His gross salary per month was $60.00. Marlin was also Principal of Progress and Bay Saint Louis high schools. Marlin was Dean of Southwest Mississippi Junior College from 1946-1957.
In 1957 Marlin moved with his family to Florida where he helped organize St. Johns River Junior College in Palatka and served as Dean of the college.
Marlin began teaching Chemistry at Daytona Beach Community College in 1959 when it was located in the Princess Issena Hotel. He became Registrar and Guidance Counselor where he served until his retirement in 1977.
Marlin was active in the community and civic affairs. He was President for the Daytona Beach Kiwanis Foundation and served as President of the Daytona Beach Club. He received a Kiwanis award for 38 years perfect attendance. He was a deacon and a Sunday School Teacher of the First Baptist Church Daytona. Marlin was a mason for 70 years serving as Past Master of the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa Volusia County Selective Service and Dollars for Scholars. Marlin is also listed in Who's Who in American Education.
Marlin traveled extensively with his wife Ina circling the globe three times. The most memorable trips were to Russia Indonesia and the Holy Land.
Mr. Magee is survived by his loving wife of 69 years Ina Magee 3 daughters: Shelby Harris (Bill) Vero Beach FL; Glenda McClure (Franklin) Winter Park FL; Janice Gutteridge Jupiter FL. 6 grandchildren: Sherri Devine (Jim) Watsetkah IL; Billy Harris Vero Beach FL; Marlin Harris Vero Beach FL; Scott McClure (Sue) Halethorpe MD; Michele Riley (Jack) Silver Spring MD; Pam Wilhoit (Adam) West Palm Beach FL. 6 Great-Grandchildren: Sarah and Daniel Devine Colin and Zachary McClure Kevin and Lauren Riley.
