In Loving Memory of Mark Sorenson

It is with deep sorrow, yet with the hope and assurance found in Jesus Christ, that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother and friend, Mark Sorenson, who peacefully went home to be with the Lord in his sleep at the age of 78.

Mark was born on May 13, 1948, in Peoria, Illinois, to Austin Sorenson and Catherine Sorenson. He graduated from Robbinsdale High School in 1966 and later earned his degree from the University of Minnesota where he received a double major degree in Speech and Broadcasting in 1971

From an early age, Mark developed a deep faith in Jesus Christ that became the foundation of his life. He loved the Lord with all his heart, and his unwavering faith guided the way he lived, loved, and served others. His life was a testimony to God’s faithfulness, and he sought to reflect Christ in everything he did.

He spent much of his childhood in Minneapolis, Little Falls, and Fairmont Minnesota before eventually making Crystal, Brooklyn Center & Brooklyn Park his home and then moved to Port Orange Florida in 2019

If you knew Mark you knew he loved selling a number of items in Janitorial industry and teaching the Bible to adults in churches that he attended and preaching in “Believers Bible Church” which we started in his home and moved to many different venues in Mpls area.

Before retiring in 2019 he also was a Limousine driver

for Premier Transportation in Bloomington MN. He also shuttled cars in Florida for Daytona Auto Mall.

Mark had a lifelong love for sports, which played a significant role throughout his life. Of all the games he enjoyed, golf held a special place in his heart. Whether he was playing a round with family and friends, following the professional game, or simply enjoying time on the range, golf brought him great joy. He enjoyed watching his son Jeff play professionally with his brother Matt as his caddie.

After nearly losing his life to sepsis several years ago, Mark courageously endured many health challenges. Though he experienced seasons of improvement, his health gradually declined. Through it all, he remained steadfast in his faith, trusting God every step of the way with grace, humility, and unwavering hope.

Mark was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Kathy Sorenson of 51 years. Their marriage was a beautiful example of love, commitment, and faithfulness. Kathy cared for him with extraordinary devotion during his years of declining health, providing him with unwavering love, compassion, and strength. Her selfless care was a remarkable testament to the vows they shared and the deep love they had for one another.

He was a loving and dedicated father to his sons, Jeff Sorenson (Heather Sorenson) and Matt Sorenson. To his family, Mark was far more than a father—he was a mentor, encourager, and example of what it means to follow Christ with humility and integrity. His legacy of faith, kindness, honesty, generosity, and unconditional love will continue to influence all who knew him for generations to come.

Mark is also survived by his sisters, Janet Pietsch (Kelsey Pietsch) and Susie Cranias (Christo Cranias), along with many extended family members, dear friends, and countless lives touched by his kindness, wisdom, and faithful example.

While our hearts are broken by his absence, we rejoice in the certainty that Mark is now in the presence of his Savior. He has been made whole, free from pain, suffering, and the limitations of this earthly life. We find great comfort in knowing that he has heard the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant,” and has entered into the joy of his Lord. We look forward with hope to the day we will be reunited with him in heaven.

Our family extends our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who prayed for Mark throughout his health journey. Your love, encouragement, and prayers have meant more than words can express. We ask for your continued prayers as we grieve his passing while celebrating the incredible life he lived and the eternal hope we have in Christ.

His ashes will be laid to rest in Waupaca, Wisconsin along side of his parents Austin and Catherine and other extended family.

Celebration of life will be held at Eagle Ridge Apartments meeting room on August 27th from 4-9pm
