Van Ness Margie Kennedy 86 passed away on Wednesday December 12 2007 at The Hospice Center in Port Orange surrounded by her family. Funeral Service for Margie Van Ness will be on Monday December 17 at 11:00 am in the chapel at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona with a visitation in the chapel for friends and family at 10:00 am. Ms. Van Ness was born November 30 1921 in Bradenton Florida and moved to this area in 1934. Margie retired in 1967 as a legal stenographer for Railway Express Agency after 22 years of service. After graduating from Mainland High School Margie attended Ashtabula Business College in Ashtabula Ohio and returned to this area in 1941. She married George M. Van Ness in 1942 where he was stationed in Miami during WWII. They lived in Oceanside CA before George was shipped to the Pacific. Margie enjoyed crocheting making a number of slippers for family and friends. She loved to swim and taught many youngsters how to swim in her back yard pool. She loved to attend church and worshipped at White Chapel until 2001 when they then attended Calvary Baptist Church for many years there she was active in their ministry. Ms.Van Ness is predeceased by her husband of 63 years George M. Van Ness; Brothers; Myrl Carl and Ralph Kennedy; Sisters; Miramin Kennedy Maxine Hampton and Mary Nell Brooke. She is survived by her children; George Larry (Connie) Van Ness of Daytona Beach and Bonnie Van Ness of Daytona Beach Shores; Grandson Michael Sean Van Ness of Spotsylvania VA; Granddaughter Tara (Seth) Hakala of Daytona Beach; Great-Granddaughters Kaitlyn Setzer and Bailey Hakala both of Daytona Beach; Sisters; Joyce (Herman) Harwell of Birmingham AL Celia (Jim) Ward of Holly Hill and Virginia (Irvin) Shipes of South Daytona.
