Obituary

Marjorie D. Martin 100 years old entered into the Arms of the Angels on Thursday July 18 2013. She was born on October 28 1912 in Melrose MA of Sturdy New England Stock to Solomon and Carolyn Knapp. Marjorie was an eternal optimist seeing only the good in people and the lessons to be learned in difficult situations. A good soul who lived a life of quiet dignity with kindness and grace. In her youth she enjoyed skiing kayaking hiking tennis and swimming. Swimming so much she could not resist skinning dipping in Walden Pond only to be caught by the Police. She graduated from Simmons College in Boston with a degree in Library Science. After college she was fortunate to travel with a couple of girlfriends through Europe hiking and staying in youth hostels. She worked for a time at the Library of Congress in Washington DC and then at the Bowling Air Force base library. It was at Bowling that she met and married her sweetheart Bob Martin in 1949 and became an Air-Force wife moving every couple of years to a new location. When Bob retired in 1966 they came to Florida settling in Ormond Beach in 1968 when Marjorie became Ormond Beach Library's first librarian retiring in 1981. In retirement she continued her love affair with books on art architecture history and Biography. She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Society of Ormond Beach attending each Sunday until getting up and out became difficult. Her husband Bob of 39 years died in 1988. She is survived by her daughters Ruth Martin of Ormond Beach Fl. and Virginia Martin of Lake City Fl. Grandson Zac Mims in Englewood CO and granddaughter Sarah Mims Feinsmith (Brad) in Chicago IL. She had a great sense of humor and loved a good laugh. Our endless gradtitude to Florida Hospital Hospice nurse Steve Makris and all the wonderful CNA's from the Wallis Agency.
