Obituary

Marion S. Rising of Ormond Beach died on September 16 2010 at Halifax Health at the age of 102 years. A native of Albany New York Marion re-located to Ormond Beach at the age of 95 where she began in her usual way to become active in the community. She became a volunteer at Halifax Medical Center and joined Christ Presbyterian Church participating in Joy Circle helping with the Library Committee and working at the Book Nook at the Holly Day Bazaar. She began making many new friends at an age when many would prefer isolation in their quiet rooms. In her native Albany she was well loved at Westminster Presbyterian Church where she was a member since 1950 and where she served as an ordained Deacon and as a member of the Service Guild. She was also an active member of the Albany Medical Center Auxiliary serving on the Board for four years as Library Chairmen. In June 2003 she received a Certificated of Merit in Recognition and Appreciation for her 39 years of volunteer service to the Medical Center. As a result of her activities in the community and other extensive care-giving activities she was a 1998 recipient of The Capitol District Seniors Forum Lifetime Achievement Award. She was also a Life Member of Wolferts Roost Country Club. Her most recent award was presented to her on September 11 at the Halifax Health Auxiliary Luncheon. She received a special plaque for her faithful service at Halifax for the past seven years and for her volunteering efforts for 39 years at Albany Medical Center in Albany New York. Longtime friends from New York and her many new friends here in Florida cherished this amazing lady as well as her family where she was the well loved Nana and loving matriarch to three fortunate generations. Beloved also by her late husband Guy J. Rising sister of the late Angalina E. and brother to the late William Schenck; she was also mother of Judith (Robert) Noble Carole( Charles ) Martin; Nana (Grandmother) to Scott and Susan Martin Keith and Rita Martin Karen and Quinn Capen and Douglas and Laura Noble. She was Nana (Great Grandmother) to Tyler and Casey Martin Ava McInnes Martin Lauren and Jason Roth Trey Malonson Heather and Emma Capen Christianna Marie and Dominique Elysabeth Noble. She was also aunt of Geoffrey and Susan Schenck Chris and Steven Schenck and Great Aunt to Traci Cody and Alex Bomba. A Celebration of Life will be held at Christ Presbyterian Church 1035 West Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach on October 9 2010 at 10 A.M. in the Sanctuary. Memorial gifts may be made to either the Rising Memorial (Helping) Fund of Westminster Presbyterian Church at 85 Chestnut Street Albany New York 12210 or to The Cleveland Clinic Foundation designated to the Heart and Vascular Institute Fund for Research and Innovation.
