Obituary

Marion Elizabeth Richard
September 28, 1955 – July 22, 2023

Marion Elizabeth Richard, 67, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, July 22, 2023.

Marion was born in Rockville Centre, NY and grew up in Baldwin, NY. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from SUNY Brockport in Health Education, and later earned her Master's at Sacred Heart University in Education. A recent transplant to Florida, Marion moved to Palm Coast in 2021, after spending the previous 30 years in Trumbull, CT. Prior to the move to Florida, she retired after spending 25 years as an elementary school teacher in Fairfield, CT. She loved teaching, and she loved her students dearly.

Marion truly lived life to the fullest. She had an adventurous spirit, and was excited to try anything and everything. She had a passion for exercising and staying active. She enjoyed running, bicycling, and swimming. A dedicated triathlete, Marion competed in countless races including 10 marathons, a Half Iron Man, and many, many others. Nicknamed, "The Energizer Bunny," Marion had no plans to stop racing ever. In fact, she was training for a full Iron Man race this November, 2023. She made many wonderful friends along the way who shared her passion for training.

Throughout her racing career, Marion fund-raised thousands of dollars for charities such as the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Sandy Hook Promise.

In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Marion was exceptionally creative, and the world was her stage. A true triple-threat, Marion loved to perform, dance, and sing. Whether it was at the local community theater or at the grocery store, Marion could be found singing and dancing just about anywhere. She also loved expressing herself through creative writing and song writing. She used her creative talents in the classroom, always making learning fun. She also incorporated creativity into her philanthropy, as the creator and producer of "Simply Something Wonderful." This annual benefit concert raised awareness and donations for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Marion had an affection for the outdoors and she enjoyed spending time kayaking, camping, and gardening. With love for Mother Earth, Marion was enthusiastic about environmentalism and conservation causes, and led by example. She was dedicated to "Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle."

Marion is survived by her loving husband Gilbert K. Richard, sons Kevin T. Richard and Eric J. Richard, daughter Laura E. Anderson, son-in-law Kyle T. Anderson, grandson Henry H. Anderson, and brothers Joseph J. Madden Jr., Raymond A. Madden, and Robert C. Madden.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Marion's honor to Sandy Hook Promise.
