Marie Elizabeth (Meyer) Bennett, 90, of Port Orange, FL passed away peacefully on June 8, 2014 2014 at the New Smyrna Beach home of her daughter, Nancy O'Neal and son-in-law, Ricky O'Neal, where she had been living and being cared for since March.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 P.M., on Wednesday June 11, 2014 at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona, 1423 Bellevue Avenue, Daytona Beach, FL 32114. Burial will immediately follow at Daytona Memorial Park.

Marie was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on May 3, 1924 to Martin and Gertrude Meyer. The family moved to Daytona Beach when Marie and her three older brothers, Andrew, Jacob and Frank, were young children. After she graduated from Mainland High School, Marie married Ollie C. Bennett in 1942. During WW II while Ollie was overseas, Marie worked as a welder in an airplane factory to do her part to help the war effort. Marie and Ollie had six children during their marriage and were together for nearly 40 years before he passed. Marie was a loving wife and mother and a true friend. She was a skilled seamstress, did furniture upholstery from home, enjoyed doing needlework, cake decorating, and worked at the Port Orange Florist part time for several years.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Ollie, her parents, her three brothers, one grandchild and one great-grandchild. She is survived by her six children: Marty (Barbara) Bennett, Kathryn (Frank) Wines, Sylvia Frost (Jim Keith), Edward (Marilyn) Bennett, Paul (Susan) Bennett and Nancy (Ricky) O'Neal as well as 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren who think the world of their "Grandma Lovie".

Music always made Marie smile. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Port Orange for nearly 50 years where she loved to sing in the choir. We can only imagine Marie is smiling as she sings with God's Heavenly choir.
