Margaret "Peggy" Fitzgerald Carroll Morrill, age 95, was a Massachusetts native who served as a US Navy WAVE during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

An educator, world traveler, devoted mother and grandmother, and devout member of her Church, she remained active well into the ninth decade of an energetic life. She was reunited with her maker in heaven April 20, 2016.

Beloved wife of Irving E. Morrill and loving mother of Patricia Morrill, Roberta Bainbridge, and Shawn Morrill. Beloved sister of the late Helen Carroll Pratt, Cohasset Mass. Adoring grandmother of Marissa, Shawn, Nicki, Jesse, and Faith. Adoring great-grandmother of Reese and Koen. She was predeceased by her mother, Mary Fitzgerald Carroll and father, William Russell Carroll, both of Winchester, Mass.

Margaret, known throughout her life as Peggy, was born in Dorchester, Mass. on November 2, 1920, and grew up in Winchester, graduating from Winchester High School, Cum Laude, in 1938. She graduated from Boston University, College of Liberal Arts with a Bachelor's Degree in English (Major in English, Minor in Secondary Education). She taught English at Kingston High School, south of Boston. Peggy described her entrance into active service with the Navy by talking about her beloved Boston University's school colors, saying, "In February of '43, I traded my loyalty to the Scarlet and White for the Navy Blue and White." Peggy became a Communications Officer and instructor in WWII, serving from 1942 through 1945. She was active with the Naval Reserve after the War. She earned an Executive Secretarial Certificate from Katherine Gibbs School in Boston, and worked for California Texas Oil in Manhattan from 1947 until 1950. Recalled to duty during the Korean Conflict, she served at the Naval Air Station, Floyd Bennett Field, New York and the Pentagon, from 1950 through 1954. She retired from military service as a Lieutenant.

While stationed at the Pentagon, she met her husband, Irving, Commander, USNR. They were married at the Naval Air Station, Moffett Field, Mountain View, California in 1954. After travelling in Europe, they made their first home in Orlando, Florida, while Irving was assigned to the nascent US space program at Cape Canaveral. Following a move to Cairo, Egypt, where Irving was on assignment to the US Department of State in 1962, the family finally settled in Huntington, Long Island. Peggy earned a Master of Science in Education at Long Island University in 1972, while teaching in elementary and secondary schools on Long Island from 1968-1979. Befitting a daughter of the storied Boston Fitzgerald clan, she served for years as a Committeewoman of the Suffolk County Democratic Committee.

Peggy and Irving retired and moved to Port Orange, FL in 1980. They both continued teaching at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach. Peggy went onto teach at Bethune Cookman College and finally retired in 1999. During retirement Peggy and Irv would spend their summer months in his hometown of Benedict, Minnesota where they enjoyed a quieter lifestyle on Leech Lake. Whether from Minnesota or Florida, Peggy was known for staying in touch with her far-flung family at every birthday, holiday, or other milestone in life. We will continue to remember her limitless vitality, strength, patience and wisdom. Peggy was a devoted member of her parish, Church of the Epiphany, until she was no longer able to attend mass. She continued her devout Catholic practice by viewing televised mass and praying daily. Peggy embodied infinite grace, generosity and understanding. Being in her company was like standing inside of a ray of sunshine. Peggy will remain in our hearts forever. We are all beyond blessed that God allowed us the time with her that He did.
