Marcy Beth Streifer Spertus, 69, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2026. She was born on January 20, 1957, in Suffern, NY, to Charlotte and Bertram Streifer. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1979 and worked as a neonatal intensive care nurse at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, NY, while her husband attended medical school. They moved to Ormond Beach, FL, in 1987.
Suffice it to say, Marcy loved being with children—raising, caring for, nurturing, and teaching them. Marcy was a beloved fixture in her community. She was a preschool teacher at Temple Beth-El in Ormond Beach for 22 years, a Girl Scout troop leader for many years, and a member of the Temple's Sisterhood of Women of Reform Judaism. She always carried an extra bag filled with crayons, games, and activities for her grandchildren and any other children she might encounter.
Above all, Marcy will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose love knew no bounds. She had a fiery spirit, a welcoming heart, and a genuine concern for the well-being of others. She always had a song in her heart.
She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Dr. Alan Spertus, whom she first met in fourth grade; her three children, Cara Goncher (Stephen), Michael Spertus (Bradley), and Chloe Spertus DeDio (AJ); her sister, Cynthia Streifer; and her five grandchildren, Brian, Riley, and Rose Goncher, and Lily and Bianca DeDio.
A funeral service to honor Marcy's life will be held on Sunday, October 25, at 12:00 p.m. at Mount Sinai Cemetery in Daytona Beach (340 White Street), followed by a luncheon gathering at Temple Beth-El beginning at approximately 1:00–1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her honor to the Jewish Federation of Volusia and Flagler Counties, Temple Beth-El Preschool, or Sharsheret (an organization supporting Jewish women and families facing breast and ovarian cancer).
She will be dearly missed. May her memory be an eternal blessing.
