Malcolm Johnson Graham III 68 of Ormond Beach FL passed away at home on March 16 2012. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 11:00 til 1:00 pm on Monday March 19 2012 at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond. A Graveside Service will be held at 1:30 pm on Monday March 19 2012 in Volusia Memorial Park 550 N. Nova Road Ormond Beach FL. He was born in Sweetwater Texas but moved to Shreveport Louisiana at age five where he lived with his family until graduating from C.E. Byrd High School as an outstanding scholar and athlete. He received a Bachelor of Arts from Baylor University with a major in Psychology and a minor in English; a Master of Science from North Texas State University in Clinical Psychology; and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Southern Mississippi with a major in Clinical Psychology and a minor in Community Mental Health. His clinical internship was completed with the Department of Child Psychiatry at the University of Kansas Medical School in Kansas City Kansas. In 1971 he was named the Director of Psychological Services for the Region I Mental Health Center in Clarksdale Mississippi and in 1974 moved to Ormond Beach to accept the position of Director of Substance Abuse Services at the Guidance Center Inc. in Daytona Beach. In 1975 he became the Director of Family Services for the Human Resources Center Inc. and continued his service there working with Case Management Stabilization Services Consultation and Forensic Services through 1984. From 1985 to 1987 he served as Clinical Psychologist for the Behavioral Counseling Associates of ACT Corp. In May of 1987 he opened Counseling Associates of Ormond Beach a private practice that has continued to deliver services to individuals throughout Volusia County to the present. He believed in honesty and integrity in his practice and took pride in the help he was able to render to the many clients whom he deeply and genuinely respected. His professional career had several highlights that he valued. In 1983 he was nominated for Outstanding Clinician of the Year at the Florida Council for Community Mental Health and received an award for "Outstanding Contributions to Community Mental Health in Florida". He was also selected by the Regional Office of the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services as one of the first mental health professionals to evaluate children in residential treatment programs for Florida's "Bring Our Children Home" program. His greatest public recognition came when a client he had been treating for a multiple personality disorder wrote a public "thank you" letter to an area newspaper. Time magazine picked up the story and did a full page article in the Behavior section of the October 25 1982 issue. This also led to an appearance on the Good Morning America Show with David Hartman as host. Malcolm's greatest love has been his family. He was totally devoted to his three sons their education and outside interests. He taught them to fish to enjoy the outdoors to smoke a whole pig on a spit to split wood and build a good fire to garden to respect the fragile Florida environment. He coached more than a decade of children in the Ormond Soccer League and prided himself on never missing the activities of his sons whether it was soccer weightlifting body building fishing skate boarding or Latin Club events. In his actions and his words he taught them love respect loyalty integrity and perseverance. As a member of Central Baptist Church in Daytona Beach he was baptized with all of his sons in 1992. He loved being with them and was extremely proud of them. Malcolm and his wife Patsy loved to travel. When the children were young the trips were to historical areas in the United States. More recently they loved being world travelers venturing to exciting places such as Egypt the Greek Isles the Galapagos Islands and most recently safaris in South Africa which Malcolm called "the trip of our lives". They visited more than 25 foreign countries five continents and almost all of the United States. He loved his family beyond measure. They will forever miss his influence in their lives. He is survived by Patsy his wife of 44 years his sons Malcolm IV (Meredith) Scott (Gayanne who passed away in 2006) and Patrick (Julie) and his most beloved grandsons Byron Evan and Conner.
