Lucian Gilliam Rowland, 93, passed away November 22, 2019, in Estero, FL, where he had resided since June 2018.  Lucian was born in Kirbyton, KY, on May 25, 1926, to Roy and Virgie (McGee) Rowland.  Upon graduating from Kentucky's Milburn High School, Lucian served honorably as Sergeant and Surgical Technician with the U.S. Army in both World War II and The Korean War.   During his service Lucian received the following citations: Good Conduct Medal, Expert Rifle Qualification, Army of Occupation (Japan) Medal, World War II Victory Medal.  After his military service and return to the States, Lucian was first employed by Willys-Overland Motors and then as a distributor for Mobil Oil Company in Toledo, OH.  Later in his career Lucian owned and operated several auto- and trucking-related companies prior to his retirement.  Lucian married his "Sweetie", Helen Lucille (Richard) Rowland on August 18, 1950, thus sharing their 67 ^th wedding anniversary prior to Lucille's death on January 16, 2018.

Throughout his life Lucian enjoyed many personal interests - boating and fishing (often resulting in vacation trips to Barkley Lake, KY) and hunting large game throughout the contingent Northwest states, Alaska, and Canada.  Lucian and wife Lucille hosted many a dinner party and holiday celebration for their extended family and friends – every one of whom will dearly miss them both.  Lucian and Lucille lived in Toledo, OH, until they moved to Daytona Beach Shores, Florida, in 1993.  As a lifelong servant of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Lucian was an active member of several Christian congregations among which he variously served as an elder, trustee and greeter. Most recently the Rowlands were members of Westminster By-The-Sea Presbyterian Church in Daytona Beach Shores.

In addition to his wife, Lucian was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Mary Lee (T. W. "Greg") Gregory and Mildred (Eugene) Hall, brothers-in-law Willis, Walden, and Don Richard and Carl Hoy, and sisters-in-law Marie, Jean and Eloise Richard and Wilma Hoy. Surviving Lucian are numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and even great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews – many of whom have been graced by Uncle Lou's presence in their lives and treated over many years to hair-raising stories of his many hunting adventures.  Lucian's gentle and kind spirit, engaging sense of humor, and always-encouraging words and gestures made him a very beloved husband, son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend.

A service in Lucian's memory and officiated by the Reverend Doctor Jeffrey Sumner will be held at Westminster By-The-Sea Presbyterian Church (address below) on Thursday, January 16 ^th .  The memorial service will commence at 2:00 P.M. and will be followed by a reception in the Church's Fellowship Hall.  Interment and a graveside committal service are being planned for mid-Summer 2020 at West Union Cemetery in Gibsonburg, Ohio.
