Lt. Joseph "Joe" Muffoletto, 74, of Daytona Beach, FL passed away Thursday, March 5, 2015 surrounded by family.
Joe was born in Buffalo, New York to Joseph and Angeline (Orffeo) Muffoletto. In 1961, after serving his country in the US Marine Corps, he relocated to Daytona Beach, where he met and married Sonia, the love of his life. Once in Daytona he joined the Daytona Beach Police Dept. where he actively served until 1987 and then remained on as a Reserve officer until mid 2000s.
Joe was first and foremost dedicated to his family, but Lt. also loved being a police officer, teacher and mentor. He was the founding member of the Daytona Beach Police Explorer's Program. He was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus where he served as Past Grand Knight and was currently serving as Faithful Navigator. He was a parishioner at the Basilica of St. Paul.
Joe was also an educator having taught criminology at Daytona Beach State College and Mainland HS, where he was the longest active educator. Joe attended Daytona Beach Community College; St. Leo's College, and went on to earn his Master's Degree in Criminology from Nova University. Joe was a Buffalo Bills fan as well as a Florida Gator fan.
Joe is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Sonia Muffoletto, Daytona Beach, his children Angela (Howard) Thurlow, Aurora, CO, Joseph (Christina) Muffoletto, II, Tampa, FL, Dana (Mark) Gerstle, Port Orange, FL, Lynne (Glyn) Johnston, Flagler Beach, FL, his brother, Roberto Muffoletto of Austria, and eleven grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 11th between 2-7 pm at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond; 733 W. Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 12th at 11:00 a.m. at Basilica of St. Paul, 317 Mullally St. Daytona Beach.
