Lourdes G. Brick, 96 of Port Orange, beloved mother grandmother and great grandmother, went home to be with her husband in the company of our Lord on Sunday, April 14 at 1:50 in the afternoon. She died quietly in her sleep in the house her husband had built for her surrounded by her loving family.

When you talk about Lourdes you must also talk about her husband of 67 years John C. Brick who passed into the glory of God on Sunday, October 7, 2012. Theirs was a love story that spanned 8 decades. They met at the end of World War II in Manila the Philippines where Lourdes was born; and fell in love at first sight while she was working as a lawyer for the McArthur administration and he was a dashing 2nd lieutenant in the American Army helping to rebuild the city. When the war ended and John had to return to the States to be discharged all of her friends told her she would never see that American again but they didn't know John. C. Brick. He came back for her in 1946 and they had been together ever since up to his passing.

They first moved back to John's home town of Wilmington Delaware where John entered his family's construction business but Lourdes soon became homesick for the Philippines. When a letter with Filipino stamps came to the house Lourdes immediately opened it. The letter was from the Corps of Engineers offering John a position as Chief of Real Estate for the Pacific Division headquartered in Manila. When John came home from work that night the whole house was packed. And that is how it went their entire life together. John took the concept of "Yes Dear" to a new level. As he told his son Victor once when Victor asked him why he let Lourdes win an argument even though she was obviously wrong "Your mother always wins!" Besides Wilmington and Manila they also lived in Cincinnati Ohio Okinawa Honolulu Hawaii Silver Spring Maryland and finally for the last 30 years Port Orange Florida.

While in Silver Spring Lourdes earned her M.Ed. and taught Spanish at Springbrook High School for 15 years. She taught 3 of her 5 children. According to Victor she only passed him out of the kindness of her heart. "She told me I had to study more because I was making her look bad in front of her students!" said Victor. Her son Merrill said his mother was an amazing woman that did more things in her life than most people could ever dream of doing. She was also a bit of an enigma. "She lived through World War II yet was afraid to drive in the snow. That is why she moved to Florida!"

She is survived by her three sons Merrill (Sherry) C. Victor (Lynne) and Bob her daughter Marilyn (Winfield) Keller; grandchildren Brian Keller Carolyn (David) Burchett and Jackie Keller Merrill Brick II. and Monica Brick Starr Jon and Vicki Brick; great grandchildren Joseph and Jacob Keller Isabella and Jonah Burchett and Katana and Lourdes Starr; sisters Linda Macginitie of Lemore California and Maria Tribble of Fresno California. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her eldest son John W.

Services will be held on Saturday April 20 2013 with a viewing at 1:00 P.M and a memorial service to follow at 2:00 P.M at All Saint Lutheran Church 751 Dunlawton Avenue Port Orange FL 32127. In lieu of flowers donations are requested for the John W. Brick Mental Health Foundation 201 Old Padonia Rd. Cockeysville MD 21030.
