Obituary

Lorraine G. Lewis went home to be with the Lord at the age of 97 on August 30, 2017.
She was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church.
Lorraine was born on September 7, 1919 to Uno Reinhold and Borghild Digre Grahn. Her parents were both Scandinavian immigrants coming to this country not speaking any English. Her father came in through Ellis Island and her mother entered through Canada. They both settled in Minnesota where they met. Her family moved to Daytona Beach in 1926. She grew up finding tranquility from long walks or drives on the beach. The beach was one of her favorite places to spend time. She attended Lenox Ave. Elementary School and Seabreeze Junior/Senior High. She was a 1936 graduate of Seabreeze High School. Lorraine was in student government in high school and enjoyed music. She was a music major at Florida State University in 1936 when it was an all girls school and pledged Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Shortly after, her father made her come home and work in his business. This was always a disappointment to her and a lost opportunity; however she realized God had another path for her to follow. She began her career with her father, working at Security Construction. They built the Streamline Hotel, several beachside hotels and other businesses in the Daytona Beach area. She worked for Pete Thomas construction and Jensen construction before joining the Root Company. She retired from the Root Company in the 80's.
She met the love of her life at the age of 14 on the beach. They lived one block apart on the beachside. They enjoyed a long courtship and on February 12, 1940 Chap proposed because he couldn't wait until Valentine's Day to give her a ring. They married on March 31st at Community Methodist Church on Grandview. She raised four children with love and respect for the Lord and others. She was a great mother, cook and disciplinarian. She always put family first and was loved by all. She was always referred to as such a sweet lady by everyone she met. She was gentle, kind and faithful. She has missed her husband since his passing in 1996 and is now joining him in heaven.
Lorraine is predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Chappie Lewis. She is survived by 4 children, sons William Chapman (Sharon), Dwight (Lisa) and John Lewis; daughter, Lorraine Miklos (Steve) and 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren.
Special thanks to Riviera Senior Living Facility for all the special attention and care she received over her last few years. They provided support and a wonderful quality of life. Thanks to Halifax Hospice for making her medical care and treatment peaceful and loving.
