Loren D. Allston, 83 of Ormond Beach, passed away in hospice on May 28, 2013.

Loren was born in Syracuse, NY, in 1929. When he was 10 years old, his family moved to Detroit, MI. It was there, as a movie theater usher, he met the love of his life of 62 years, Bernice Watkins. After a two year courtship, Loren and Bernice were married June 3, 1950. In Detroit, they started and raised their family and Loren began his career in the banking industry. in 1952, Loren was drafted into the U. S. Marines and stationed in Barstow, CA. He proudly served his country in the Korean Conflict. The first of their two children, Carolyne, was born at the base hospital. After being honorably discharged in 1954, they moved back to Detroit and bought their first home in Michigan. In 1955, they welcomed their son, Raymond, into the family.

Loren attended night school while working in banking to earn his accounting degree. In 1955, he became an assistant manager at City National Bank and began his rise to eventually become executive vice president and comptroller. Loren was also a past president of the Detroit chapter of the Bank Administration Institute, a director of the Charge Card Association, and a member of the Financial Executives Institute and the American Institute of Banking. Loren enjoyed taking his family on camping trips across several states and the Provinces. He liked to bowl, play cards, and found a passion for golf. And even though he graduated from the University of Detroit, he embraced Michigan State University as his school since both of his children attended there.

After he retired in 1987, Loren and Bea made the most of their time. They both loved to golf and travel, especially if it involved taking a cruise. They drove their camper van around the country visiting lighthouses along the way. They were classic "snowbirds" with a place in Ormond Beach, and a summer residence in Alanson, MI to be near their family and grandchildren.

Loren was predeceased by his mother Eileen and by his father Neil. He was also predeceased by his brother Kenneth and his sister-in-law Frieda. He is survived by his wife Bernice and daughter Carolyne (Arden) Allston-Smith and his son Raymond (Karen) Allston. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren Jerrod Angela Connor and Nicholas and several nieces nephews and friends.

A Memorial Celebration of his Life will be held Thursday, June 6, 2013 from 5 to 7pm at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond, with a 6 p.m. Prayer Service. Another service will be held in Michigan at a later date. The family would like to thank the efforts of VITAS and three very special certified nurse's aides: Mishell Desmond and Lutricia all of whom helped Loren through his unfortunate struggle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy a rare degenerative disease.
