Obituary

Linda McLaughlin, 98, of Ormond Beach passed away at home on Wednesday, December 2, 2015.

She was born Florinda Saraniti to immigrant Sicilian parents in Brooklyn, New York, on June 18, 1917. She was part of the greatest generation having grown up during the Great Depression and WWII. Linda was a very successful business woman. She owned a retail shoe store in Queens, New York, before moving to Holly Hill in 1956. The love of her life, Edward McLaughlin, was a New York firefighter who due to multiple injuries on the job took early retirement. They had for years vacationed in and loved New Smyrna Beach and decided to relocate to Volusia County. They bought and ran Advanced Appliances in Daytona, the largest retail GE store in Volusia County.

In 1962, they sold the appliance store and Linda started selling real estate with Key Realty. While being one of the top real estate sales persons in the county she was caring for her now invalid husband and elderly parents. In 1973, Linda left her real estate career to manage her son's dental practice. She continued to work in the dental practice until her retirement in 2012.

Linda was an avid Florida Gator fan, having attended over 100 football games at the Swamp. She loved fishing and being with family. She is pre-deceased by her parents, Tom (Gaetano) Saraniti and Gemma Saraniti and her husband, Edward McLaughlin. She is survived by her two sons, Edward (Diane) McLaughlin, M.D. and Thomas (Barbara) McLaughlin, DDS both of Ormond Beach; her sister, Mimi Scire of Ormond Beach; Grandchildren, Kathleen McLaughlin (Eddie) Miller, ARNP of Ormond Beach, Thomas "TJ" (Courtney) McLaughlin of Bradenton, Kelly-Ann (Jim) Jenkins of St. Petersburg and Christine McLaughlin of Gainesville; Also Great-Grandchildren, Thomas, Allie, and Ainsley McLaughlin of Bradenton and Katelyn and Nicholas Miller of Ormond Beach.
