Lillian Schnell, 97 of Deland, formerly of Ridgewood, New York passed away peacefully on October 6, 2017. Our Mom was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 19, 1919, and in 1949 married my dad, William Henry Schnell Sr., who preceded his passing in 2014.
Mother worked many years as telephone operator and as cherished homemaker; raised four children Dorothy (Ron, spouse), Anna (Bill, spouse), Elinor, William Jr, (Louise, spouse), and Regina Salermo a devoted daughter-in-law throughout the years. Also Nana included a wonderful legacy, of eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren presently in the family.
Spreading the Gospel was important in Lillian's life, and as an advocate of teaching Sunday school and partaking seriously in Vacation Bible Study, many students were influenced over the years. Even later on in life when mother was in her early 90's, wheel chair bound, involvement was greatly emphasized. Mother believed and instilled in all us, her no-nonsense German/Swiss up bringing from the depression, that she expected moral and loving relationship from all of us. Therefore as siblings, we nicknamed her the, "Sargent".
Throughout the years, she loved going to the beach with family and friends, and again a treasured moment was gifted us, as Anna and I took Mom to Daytona Beach earlier during the week before her passing.
