Lillian Gover Durham age 74 of Daytona Beach went to meet the Lord Saturday July 9th 2005 surrounded by her loving family. A celebration of her life will be on Wednesday July 13 2005 at 8:00pm at the Lohman Funeral Home in Ormond Beach with Pastor Joe Hofer officiating. Her family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm. Mrs. Durham was born on July 17th 1930 in Glen Burnie MD to Samuel and Lillian Freese Gover and moved to the area in 1949 from Wilmington NC. Lillian was a Library Tech. Assistant for the state of Florida. Then later a reader advisor working with Talking Book Services for the blind and physically handicapped. She was a member and past treasurer of the Christ United Methodist Church. She was PTA president for the Old North Ridgewood Elementary School in 1970 and 1971. She was instrumental in establishing the breakfast program for Volusia County Schools. In 1952 she was a member of the all girl crew that sailed Tropicair a 10 ton schooner to Cuba in the St. Petersburg to Havana race. She was in the seafood business with her husband Russell from 1971 to May 2005. She received 2 awards for excellence 1986 and 1990 a Sustained Superior Achievement in 1990 a Loyalty and Dedication award at retirement after 23 years and a best new Volunteer Award in 1997 from the library. She was known for her positive attitude and took great pleasure in inspiring her family. Her friends often referred to her as the ?peacemaker?. She was a loving devoted mother and friend and will be remembered for her beautiful smile. She is survived by her husband of 50 years Russell three sons Russell J. of Edgewater FL Michael E. of Port Orange FL Steve Durham of Daytona Beach two daughters Marie E. Arndt of Ormond Beach FL Shari Durham Krauth of Daytona Beach FL a sister Mary Nellesen of Oakwood GA eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.
