Leonard C. Slater, 88, of Deland, passed away on January 29, 2017 at Grandvilla of Deland. He was born on March 23, 1928 in Hodgdon, Maine. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during WWII in Japan where he received a WWII Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. Leonard retired from the Teamsters after many years as well as owning his own business and working for Revlon as a Fragrance Technician. He moved to this area in 2001 from North Carolina. He was a member of the VFW Post 2380 in Deland.
A Visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Thursday Feb. 9, 2017 in the Chapel at Lohman Funeral Home Deland. Funeral Service will be held at 11am on Friday Feb. 10, 2017 in the Chapel at Lohman Funeral Home Deland. Interment will follow with Military Honors at 2:00pm at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, Mims, FL.
Survivors include his six sons, Rick, Gary (Pam), Bill, Dennis, Dan (Lisa) and David (Tricia); Eleven grandchildren, Tracesea Slater, Rachel Sosnowski, Erin Slater, Samantha Slater, Natalie McDonald, Kevin Slater, Sean Slater, Scott Slater, Amanda Slater, Jack Slater and Hayden Slater; and three great-grandchildren, Freyja, Madelynn and Petranella He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Hazel Slater and his wife of 52 years, Arlene. He was also preceded in death by his two brothers, Floyd and Lawrence and by his two sisters, Marie and Pearl. Memorial Donations may be made in his memory to Grandvilla of Deland, 350 E.
