IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Leonard E.
Indianer
September 16, 1938 – May 18, 2025
Leonard E. Indianer, a devoted family man and active community leader, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at age 86. He is survived by his two daughters, Renée and Erin, four grandchildren, Allie, Zachary, Hannah and Sarah, one great-grandson, Austin, and his sons-in-law, Ron, Richard and Garret.
Leonard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helaine, who passed away in 2022.
Born in Detroit, MI on Sept. 16, 1938, Leonard moved to Miami at age 3. After attending the University of Alabama and the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, he served as a U.S. Air Force lieutenant from 1962 to 1965 in Savannah. He married Helaine Pilton in 1964, and they settled the following year in Ormond Beach, Florida, where they raised their daughters. Leonard established a thriving optometric practice in Daytona Beach, serving the community for 35 years until his retirement in 2000.
He authored three novels and immersed himself in civic life. He founded the Daytona Beach Ski & Travel Club and served on boards for the Volusia County Jewish Federation, Temple Beth El, Tiger Bay, and Kiwanis Club.
Leonard's zest for life extended to his hobbies: he was an avid skier, tennis player, golfer and photographer. He traveled the world with his wife, and the couple filled their home with art and photos they collected along the way.
His family fondly remembers his playful motto, "There's always room for cream," referring to his love for ice cream even after the heartiest meal.
A private family gathering will be held to honor his memory at 12 PM on Tuesday, May 20th, 2025 at Temple Beth El, 579 N Nova Rd, Ormond Beach, FL 32174. Burial will follow at Mount Sinai Cemetery, 340 White St, Daytona Beach, FL 32114. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's & Dementia Association (alz.org).
