Pontiac cars, Jim Beam Black, Colby cheese, George Jones, and an impish grin; these are a few of the things that personified Leo Herbert Walters, who passed away peacefully in Ormond Beach on January 24th, 2014, at the age of 76, after a tenacious fight against cancer and with his family at his side. To those fortunate few that had the honor of knowing him, Leo (also known affectionately as daddy and grandpa) was the consummate family man, fiercely devoted to those that he loved and remembered by friends and family alike as an honest, generous, hard-working and honorable person. Born on January 29th, 1937, in Columbus, Ohio, to Leslie and Mary (Mag) Walters, Leo grew up with a love of fast cars. He married the love of his life, Lillian Pelkola, on August 11th, 1956 and their love proved strong enough to endure 57 years, until his passing. Their marriage bore two daughters, his beloved dolly babes,' Lynette (of Ormond Beach) and Linda (of Port Orange), three grandsons (Jonathan, Daniel, and Nicholas), and two great grand-daughters (Elisabeth and Victoria). He was a proud Marine that joined the Corps in 1958, and excelled as a tank crewman. After separating from service, Leo settled with his family in Daytona Beach where his entrepreneurial spirit and hard work saw him own and operate several businesses, including a beach front motel and video game arcade. As he advanced into his retirement years, Leo enjoyed spending time with his family, riding his bicycle, and travelling with his wife. Although physically passed from this Earth, Leo's memory is proudly carried on by family. He joins his brother, Paul, sister, Gladys, and his parents, who preceded him in passing. He will be grievously missed as the undeniable rock and center of his family, and his passing inflicts a wound of an intensity equaled only by the love his family continues to have for him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Florida Hospital HospiceCare. A private service was held by the family. Arrangements are under the careful direction of Lohman Funeral Home Ormond.
