Lena Barassa Hauser 87 of Ormond Beach Florida went peacefully into the arms of our Lord and Saviour at 7:00 p.m on Thursday February 5 at her home. She was surrounded by her beloved brother and caregivers in her final hour. A mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday February 13 2009 at 11:00 AM at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. A reception and luncheon will follow at the church.Lena was born on April 15 1921 in San Michael di Bari Italy to Isabelle Tartaralle and Vito Nicolo Marinelli. The family came to Bradford PA in 1935 where she graduated from Saint Bernard H.S. in 1940. She went to Chicago IL where she was a student at Loyola University and also received her Bachelor of Art degree from Roosevelt College. Lena married Judge Bernard Barassa in 1951 and they moved to Florida the next year settling in New Smyrna Beach. They were both involved in Real Estate Development in that area. After her husband's death in 1963 Lena had a desire to continue her education and attended Stetson University to obtain her teacher's certification and began a career in teaching at Our Lady of Lourdes during 1965-66. She married again to Peter Hauser in 1965. She then taught at Bunnell High School where she was the Department Head of Languages specializing in Latin and Spanish. She then moved on to Campbell Middle School and taught civics government and Spanish. She had a passion for teaching and focused on making sure that the students understood the importance of an education and encouraged them to make every effort to take the opportunity to learn. She arranged trips to Washington DC to encourage her students to participate in their government structure. Lena's mother passed away in 1977 and Mr. Hauser died in 1978 so Lena and her brother Anthony took up residence together in her home on Atlantic Avenue. After many years of teaching Lena retired in 1997. She and her brother traveled to their home place in Italy in 1997 and visited with family. Anthony and Lena decided to build their home in Halifax Plantation in 1999 and moved in 2001 to live together. Lena has been loved and cared for during the last few years by her most gracious brother Anthony and her devoted and compassionate caregivers Connie Anzhelika Rita and Sagina. She is survived by her faithful loyal and cherished brother Anthony cousins Ella(Dominic)Romano Pittsburgh PA Rita Mongillo Bradford PA Shirley Mongillo Bradford PA and Debbie Copley of Okeechobee FL and seven nieces and nephews in Italy.
