Leila Olivia Purcell, 82, of Daytona Beach, FL, went home peacefully to be with the Lord on Monday, February 25, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 8, 1937 in Daytona Beach, to the late Frank and Maggie (Adams) Purcell.

Ms. Purcell was an Alumnus of Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University and Bethune Cookman University majoring in Elementary Education and Curriculum and Supervision. She taught elementary school in Flagler and Volusia counties beginning her teaching practice at Carver Elementary School in Bunnell, FL and culminating her practice at Sugar Mill Elementary school in Port Orange, FL.  Leila was also a member of the National Teachers Association (NEA), Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. and a longtime, dedicated member of the Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Daytona Beach, FL.

In addition to her parents, her daughter Angela Maria Purcell predeceases her as well.  She is survived by her loving daughter Delphine Purcell Williamson (Cleveland), her loving granddaughters Olivia Shantè Hickson, Ayrrion Thompson (Frankie); her loving grandsons Shannon Purcell, Cory Williamson, and Regis Adams; her loving great-grandchildren, Alana Thompson, Serenity Adams, and Nebreia Adams; her sisters Ollie Mae Kemp, Willie Mae Twiggs, Martha Mays, and Hilda Purcell and her brother, John Purcell.  Ms. Purcell is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends including a dear friend Mrs. Mattie Sheffield. Her brothers, Carroll Purcell and Frank Purcell and her sister, Ruby Purcell Elmore also preceded her in death.

The family will receive friends at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona, 1423 Bellevue Ave from 5:00 -8:00 pm, with a Memorial Tribute beginning at 6pm Friday March 8, 2019.  A Home Going Celebration will be conducted at 11:00 am at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church at 703 George W. Engram Blvd., Daytona Beach. Interment will be at Daytona Memorial Park at 1425 Bellevue Ave, Daytona.
