IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lawrence G
Gray
September 24, 1938 – March 16, 2024
Lawrence Gray, 85 of Port Orange died at home on Saturday March 16th, 2024.
Lawrence was born in Springfield, Ohio in 1938. His family later moved to Wyandotte, Michigan where he attended Theodore Roosevelt Highschool. He graduated in June of 1956.
Larry worked at the local bowling alley setting pins and might have hustled a few people on the pool tables. He was the Michigan State Bowling Champion and has bowled two 299 games.
Lawrence went on to join the Airforce where he worked in intelligence. He was stationed several places but got lucky when he was in Darmstadt, Germany. That's where he met Marianne- the love of his life.
Larry came back to Michigan and 6 months later Marianne followed. He spoke German and Marianne very little English but they managed.
Marianne found Larry the Air Traffic Control Job where after 3 months of school, he was assigned to San Juan Puerto Rico. By then Steve and Lori were born and the family made the move.
After 2 years, Larry was transferred to the Miami Control Tower where he excelled as he did in most things. He actually talked down a plane in distress and saved several lives.
In 1990 he retired after 32 years of service and together they moved to Spruce Creek Fly-In Port Orange.
Larry was very happy playing golf 4 days a week and spending time with Marianne.
Larry was predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years, two years ago, as well as, his parents and his siblings, Eddie, Nancy, Linda and Bobby. He is survived by their two kids Steve and his wife Joy and Lori Gray.
We like to think that he has found Mom again and they can truly live happily ever after.
