IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lawrence Edward
Goetz
April 6, 1946 – April 7, 2025
Lawrence Edward Goetz (Larry) was born in Covington, Kentucky April 6, 1946. He was the second of 7 children and the only boy. Larry passed away on April 7, 2025 fortified with the last sacraments of the Catholic Church.
Larry grew up in Latonia, Kentucky where he attended Holy Cross grade school and graduated in 1963 from Holy Cross High School. Larry served as an altar boy at Holy Cross Church when he was in grade school. He was team manager for the Holy Cross Indians basketball team and worked on the school newspaper "The Herald" in high school. Larry loved sports especially the Cincinnati Reds and the Bengals. As a child he played knothole baseball and later coached several knothole baseball teams. Larry grew up across the street from the Bowlounge bowling alley. His first job was setting pins and from there, he became an avid bowler. He bowled in leagues for many years, sometimes several at a time and became very good, even bowling a couple of 300 games. After high school he became an accountant and worked at Rosedale Manor Nursing Home, Cloverleaf Dairy, and Carlisle Construction, where he was transferred to Orlando, and retired from Crane Rental of Orlando. Larry had a passion for fishing. He fished from the time he was little with his Dad and then would take his pole anywhere there was water and fish. You could always find his freezer full of his catch. Larry also loved to cook, and no one was ever hungry at his house. He took great pride in creating beautiful presentations no matter what the dish was.
Larry was an amazing father who devoted the majority of his life to his three daughters. He always boasted how proud he was of his children and grandchildren and their accomplishments to anyone and everyone with whom he came into contact. Larry radiated positivity and hope, even during times of sickness. He thrived on the happiness of his family and every countless smile he caused. Larry's sense of humor was truly unmatched. Whether it was pranking his sisters or daughters or his endless supply of witty quips, there will be endless laughter in the wake of those priceless memories for years to come. Larry was the most content in the company of his grandchildren, both human and furry alike, holding the esteemed title, "Pop", for 28 years. If you knew him, you loved him. If you met him briefly, you took away a smile and probably a laugh. Larry seemed to make the sun shine brighter when he was here. Accordingly, he leaves behind a forever light, a beacon of remembrance of someone who lived a beautiful life of integrity, strength, benevolence and gratitude.
Larry is preceded in death by his father, Earl Harry Goetz, his mother, Lillian Marie (Wehr) Goetz, and his brothers-law, Jerry Kreger and Doug Allgaier.
Larry is survived by his daughters, Julie Sweat (Jim), Susan Hively (Greg), and Laura Thornton (Matt); his grandchildren, Ryan Sweat, Christopher Sweat, Jasmine Sweat, Trinity Sweat, Andrew Thornton and Ella Marie Thornton; his sisters Mary Buerger (George), Carol Spaulding (Mick), Kathy Kreger (Bob Brake), Judy Porges (Ron), Marilyn Santerre (Bob), and Rose Hudepohl (Ken); as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, Larry's family asks that you honor his spirit by simply doing an act of kindness for someone you know, a charity, a shelter, or even a stranger who crosses your path.
