Lavern "Vern" Byam was born November 29 1918 in Polk City Iowa. He passed away at home March 2 2012 in Ormond Beach. He was preceded in death by his parents his wife Ermal Byam in 2010 and their son Steven Byam in 1976. His working career was in Des Moines IA with the majority of his career with the East Des Moines State Bank.
Vern and Ermal retired and moved to Ormond Beach in 1988. Vern was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church in Ormond Beach. He was a 50 year member of the Operative Masonic Lodge No. 308 in Polk City IA. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason located in the Valley of Des Moines IA. He was also a member of the local shrine in Ormond Beach.
During WWII he was an aircraft mechanic for the B-24 bombers in the Philippine Islands. Vern enjoyed wood working in his garage and donated or gave away his wood work. Vern will be sadly missed by his extended family and especially by his poodle Fifi.
Family welcomes guests to a Visitation Tuesday March 6 2012 at 2:30pm at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond. Memorial service for Vern will follow at 3:00pm.
