Larry G. Jackson 

December 1, 1954 – July 18, 2026

Early Life & Education 

Larry Glen Jackson was born on December 1, 1954, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to the late Adam Jackson and Georgiana Turner Jackson. Larry accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Elm Park Baptist Church in Baton Rouge by the late Rev. Morris.

 In 1969, as a pioneer of school integration, Larry attended Glen Oaks High School in Baton Rouge. Following his graduation, he enrolled at Southern University, where he met the love of his life, Eleanor Stevens. He graduated from Southern University in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics.

 A Distinguished Career

 Following graduation, Larry relocated to New York, where he began his engineering career with General Electric (GE) Aerospace Operations, serving the company for ten years. In 1986, he transferred to Daytona Beach, Florida, while continuing his career with GE. In 1992, GE Aerospace was acquired by Martin Marietta, which later merged with Lockheed Corporation in 1995 to form Lockheed Martin. Throughout a distinguished engineering career spanning more than 36 years, Larry served in numerous technical and leadership roles before retiring from Lockheed Martin on August 9, 2016.

 A Life of Character 

Larry Jackson will be remembered as a quiet yet extraordinary man whose actions spoke far louder than words. Humble, patient, generous, and selfless, he lived a life defined by love, integrity, and service to others. Gifted with remarkable intelligence and resourcefulness, Larry was largely self-taught, mastering countless trades and believing that no problem was without a solution. 

A devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and trusted friend, Larry found his greatest joy in caring for others. Whether repairing a car, fixing a computer or appliance, helping with home projects, or sharing his knowledge, he gave freely of his time, talents, and heart—never expecting anything in return. His quiet acts of kindness touched countless lives and reflected a generosity that knew no bounds.

 Larry’s creativity was equally remarkable. He enjoyed drawing, painting, and building intricate models, pursuits that reflected his patience, precision, and artistic talent. He also loved staying active through running 5K and 15K races, playing racquetball, and golfing. Whatever captured his interest, he approached it with discipline, curiosity, and a commitment to excellence. 

To those who knew him, Larry was more than a gifted craftsman—he was a dependable mentor, an exceptional problem solver, and a true community hero. Though he never sought recognition, he earned the admiration and respect of all whose lives he touched. 

A Heart for Service 

Larry believed that the greatest measure of success was found in serving others. Throughout his life, he dedicated himself to mentoring, volunteering, and uplifting his community with compassion, humility, and quiet leadership. 

He mentored students from Jones High School, taught summer computer classes at Bethune Cookman University to inspire careers in technology, and donated dozens of computers to schools throughout Volusia County. Whether mentoring a student, or volunteering at a community event, Larry freely shared his time, talents, and heart. 

His lifelong commitment to service earned him recognition as a Daytona Beach Hometown Hero— a fitting tribute to a man who had long been a hero in the hearts of those whose lives he touched. 

Larry’s passion for service also flourished through Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., where he became a member in 1992. In 1995, he received both the Polemarch Award and the Brother of the Year Award in recognition of his outstanding service.

 Through the fraternity, Larry helped organize Father-Daughter Dances, volunteered at the Daytona Beach Senior Prom, supported the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Health Fair in partnership with the City of Daytona Beach, participated in neighborhood beautification projects, and served for many years with Second Harvest Community Food Distribution, helping provide food to hundreds of families each month. As a Lifetime Member, he exemplified the fraternity’s ideals of achievement, mentorship, leadership, and service.

 On the day the Lord called Larry home, he was also recognized as a Distinguished Honoree at the 100 Men in Black Gala for his lifetime of service and unwavering commitment to the community. It was a beautiful reminder that while his community honored him on earth, Heaven was welcoming him home. 

Family 

Mourning his passing while cherishing his love and devotion are his beloved wife of 50 years, Eleanor Jackson; his daughters, Dr. Raquel Jackson of Ormond Beach, Florida; Ashley (Marcus) Watkins of Orlando, Florida; and Mariah (Steven) Johnson of Miami, Florida; his five beloved grandchildren, Alvin Scott III (affectionately known as “Tré”), Aysia Watkins, Zoe Watkins, Mason Watkins, and Madison Johnson; his sister, Carol Jean Williams of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; his brother, Kenneth (Margaret) Jackson of Houston, Texas; his God-sister, Vanessa (Ulese) Brumfield of Zachary, Louisiana; his sisters-in-law, Willie Mae Freeman of Ville Platte, Louisiana, Jeanella Burleigh of Houston, Texas, and Melvola Leviege of Lake Charles, Louisiana; his brothers-in-law, Benjamin (Charmaine) Stevens of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and Joseph Leroy Broussard of Lake Charles, Louisiana; along with a host of cherished cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. 

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Adam Jackson and Georgiana Turner Jackson; his brothers, Tyrone Williams and Robert Jackson; his sister, Janice Jackson; his maternal grandparents, Edmond and Bertha Turner; and his paternal grandparents, Harvey and Ophelia Jackson.

A Lasting Legacy 

Larry Jackson lived a life marked by integrity, humility, and selfless service. Though a man of few words, his life spoke volumes. His legacy lives on in his beloved family, the community he faithfully served, and the countless people who were inspired by his generosity, wisdom, and quiet strength. He will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and lovingly carried in the hearts of all who knew him.
