Obituary

Larry R. Broker, passed away March 8th, 2023 at Advent Hospital in Daytona Beach, FL.  Larry is now with Jesus, his Lord and Savior and filled with abundant joy!

Larry grew up in Carbondale, IL where he graduated with a Bachelor degree in Speech Communications and Accounting from Southern Illinois University.  He began his career at Bank of Carbondale in the lending department where he worked approximately 10 years. In the early 1980's, he moved his family to Florida to be near his wife's family and for employment opportunities.  He soon found employment at Empire of America where he was the Loan department manager. From there he worked his way into information technology for banking services software and finished his career at Fiserv Corporation as Software Production Manager serving domestic and international bank customers.  His job at Fiserv provided him the opportunity to travel the world developing various specialized software programs for each bank. Larry had many to stories to tell of his times in Australia and other countries!  He enjoyed international travel immensely and loved meeting new people and exploring new countries while developing software programs for individual banks.  Larry was an athlete when he was younger and enjoyed baseball, basketball, and especially tennis.  Larry was also known for his sports trivia knowledge that encompassed decades of various sports facts.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Bobby and Frieda Broker, his first wife, Magee, and son, Matthew and daughter, Dara.  He is survived by his wife, Sherry, siblings, Russell Broker (JoCarol), Stephen Broker,(Mary), and Jill Reinking,(John). His nieces, nephew, granddaughter and stepchildren.  Larry will be lovingly remembered for his big smile, his easy laugh and friendly nature to anyone he met.  He will be eternally missed by his family and friends.  A Celebration of Life will be held on May 5th from 1:00-2:30 pm at Lohman Funeral Home in Ormond Beach, FL.  In lieu of flowers, please honor Larry with a donation to the Volusia YMCA in Ormond Beach or to the Halifax Humane Society in Daytona Beach.
