Obituary

Kevin William Hand, Sr., aged 66,  passed away after a long battle with cancer on June 26, 2023, surrounded by the people he loved the most.

Kevin was one of six children of Jean and Jim Hand.  They were a tight-knit six pack and Kevin said often, "we had the best childhood ever."   He was raised in Pinecrest and attended Palmetto Elementary and Middle Schools.

He was a proud graduate of Christopher Columbus High School. The relationships formed there were a brotherhood, the bonds of which were strong.

Kevin spent many years coaching youth football and mentoring inner city youth players.  His great pride was having former players reach out to him in their adulthood, many years after he had coached them.

Always a gym rat, even cancer couldn't keep Kevin from the gym and working out.  He was up early every day and rode to the gym.  He was seen all over Daytona trying to break speed records, particularly going down the bridge, on his electric bike.  But he started each day with a call to his Mom (mamasita).

Kevin relished his retirement years, enjoying  time spent with his three sons.  Watching them establish themselves in their own adult lives gave him great happiness and peace.  They were his pride and joy.

Kevin's most enduring relationship was with his best friend "Kimberly".  She was his person, one of the few people he shared all of his heart with, from the very beginning.  He was fond of saying that they finished as they started, as best friends.  He wouldn't have had it any other way.

Kevin had no filter and one of his favorite past times was regaling family members with the wild stories of his younger days.  He loved watching UM and Miami Dolphins games with his two brothers Jim and Tim (until his death).  Their bond was unbreakable to the end.  Kevin had only love in his heart for everyone.

He is predeceased by his sister, Kathleen, his brother, Tim and his father, James.  He is survived by his sons, Charlie, Billy (Hayley), Ryan (Jessica), granddaughter, Amelia, his best friend Kimberly, his mother, Jean, brother Jim (Elayne), sisters Colleen (John) and Maureen (Nader), and several nieces and nephews.

Kevin's two greatest sorrows were the death of his sister, Kathleen, and his brother, Tim.  May he rest easy in the comfort of their embrace.
