Kenneth Steady, 84, of Port Orange, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Port Orange Halifax Health Hospice. Kenneth was born in South Hero, VT. He lived in Plattsburgh, NY until his retirement in September 1993. He enjoyed his career in food preparation. He also enjoyed fishing, playing pool and most recently, working on model ships.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Eleanor (Trombley) Steady; a granddaughter, Angele; a daughter-in-law, Gail Steady of Burnt Hills, NY; two sisters-in-law, Marguerite Forrett of Plattsburgh, NY, and Eunice Bell of Watertown, NY; two brothers-in-law, Samuel Trombley of Ellenburg, NY and Roosevelt Jones of Sacramento, CA; a brother, Leo Steady of Dover, DE; a sister, Joan Richards of Maine; and several nieces and nephews. Kenneth was predeceased by their only child, Edmour Steady in 1997; his parents, George and Josephine Steady; and three brothers and two sisters.

Kenneth retired in September 1993 from New York Corrections as a certified professional food supervisor. After moving to Florida, he worked several years for Avis and Daytona Beach International Airport.

Mr. Steady served in the Army and the Korean War from 1950-1953. He received a Medallion of Appreciation from the South Korean government for his honorable service during the Korean War in defense of democracy presented to him by then Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta.

Kenneth was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Council 8086, an active 22-year parishioner of Epiphany Catholic Church in Port Orange, a 22-year member of the American Legion, a 35-year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles (both of Port Orange), and a member of VFW Post 3282 of Port Orange and the Korean War Veterans Association of Central Florida.

Viewing will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 22, at Lohman Funeral Home, 1201 Dunlawton Ave., Port Orange. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 23, at Epiphany Catholic Church. Entombment with military honors will follow at Daytona Memorial Park.
