A Funeral Service for Kenneth E. Hayes 74 of Ormond Beach FL will be held at 1:00pm Saturday July 18 2009 at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond 733 W. Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach FL with entombment to follow at Daytona Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday July 17 2009 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the funeral home. Kenneth E. Hayes was born in Blakely GA on Jan.13 1935. When he was 8 his family relocated to Haines City FL. where he grew up. Yesterday at 4:47 PM July 15th 2009 my Dad died. I never thought this day would come. It was only yesterday that he was bigger than life. My Dad many of you may know him as "BEAR"; he spent a lot of time in local bars in and around Daytona Beach. The names of all the bars escape me now but a few I recall are the White Eagle Smiles Tap Berry's and the Kick Start. He owned Desperados Bar for a while in Holly Hill. Man he could party! It was an everyday thing from as far back as I can remember. One party ended yesterday a new party begin yesterday. Five years ago my dad accepted the Lord as his Savior. I always told him that he had received his get out of hell free card. He would want all of his old buddies to know that and he would want to tell them they too can find peace and love in accepting Jesus Christ as their savior. Those of us that knew him will miss him: the good the bad and the ugly! You see the smoking and drinking caught-up to him eight years ago. It does with everyone that smokes and drinks. Although by the end of his life he no longer drinks alcohol he did smoke until the end. He was held hostage to the addiction of nicotine smoking with one hand and holding his oxygen tank in the other. God knows he tried to stop. He tried stopping cold turkey and he tried the prescription drug Chantix. He just could not shake it. I would tell him that one day he was going to fall over dead from smoking and sure enough he did. He wanted me to tell everyone his story. If he could show one person the truth of addiction he would be happy. What seemed so cool for many years was un-cool in the end. Nicotine is like any drug addiction: heroin crack cocaine and alcohol to name a few. The whole family is wrapped-up in trying to work with this addiction. The so-called major drug addict's family is consumed with trying to get the addict to stop the drug. The addict is in and out of rehab it's an everyday crisis. The nicotine addict is in and out of hospitals. It consumes everyone's time in the family putting them through emotional hell all for a cigarette. Let's tip our hats to the cigarette manufacturers and other distributors of nicotine. Let's congratulate them on the new flavored tobacco Hookah. The new rage of Hookah Bars is getting a fresh generation hooked on smoking tobacco! The first major heart attack was in 2003 it went down from there. He flat lined three or four times broke his hip tripped and was plagued with pneumonia on and off due to his lack of movement. He underwent abdomen surgery that went on for three- six months and endured rehabilitation for what seems like forever. You see that bigger than life man I recall as a child was an old worn-out 74 year old (young) dying father. When I spoke with him about the many things he would do differently in his life he replied that all his regrets were due to alcohol. He would not drink or smoke if he had a second chance. If you're reading this pass it on to someone it may help. Take his advice yourself if needed I did. He loved his family deeply. He had four Grandchildren: Mellissa Hayes Yoon and Husband Andrew Yoon Ormond Beach FL Ken Hayes and wife Scarlett Hayes Ormond Beach FL Christina Hayes of Houston TX Keghan Condos-Hayes of Port Orange FL. Jeffery and Matthew Tacinelli of Lakeland Fl and Spencer and Tyler Tacinelli of Ormond Beach FL and Great Grandchild Hayden Hayes of Ormond Beach FL. Other Survivors included: Sisters: Sybil Burch Haines City and Nell O'Neil Davenport: Brother James M. Hayes West Palm Beach. Many Nieces and Nephews and other family members that loved him He was pre deceased by his Mother & Father Colsom & Essie Mae Hayes; Brothers Hubert Horace & Herman Hayes; and sisters Ruth Jones & Buna Jones Middleton. He loved to cook and to watch NASCR racing. Favorite Songs: "Only you" by the platters;" He stopped loving her today" by George Jones. He liked telling the story of meeting him. He also liked ""In the sweet Bye & Bye"". We miss you and will always love you. In lieu of flowers witness to a family member that has not received Christ.
