Obituary

Kenneth T. Cairns, born in Buffalo, NY on May 12, 1936 entered his Heavenly home on August 20, 2017, after his valiant battle with a long illness. His devotion to his family and firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.

Ken was born to the late Thomas and Geneva Cairns. He was a missionary in Congo Africa for 10 years, Assistant pastor of the First Baptist Church of Holly, Michigan, and proud member and former Deacon of Stetson Baptist Church of DeLand, Florida.

Ken was a teacher at heart. He was kind and soft spoken, and always had time to answer a question or solve a problem. He is dearly missed by his loving family and many friends who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his Creator. Ken was blessed with a loving family, he was married to Dorothy Koan on December the 20th, 1960. Ken graduated from Wheaton College in 1958, and received his MA from Michigan State University and continued on to receive his French degree in Belgium. Ken was also an Army Veteran and was in ROTC. Ken moved from Grand Blanc, Michigan to retire in DeLand in 1998.

Ken is survived by his wife, Dorothy Koan Cairns of Deland, Florida. Daughters Carolee Cairns and Delaine Furden and her husband Joe, and a son Thomas Weston Cairns and his wife Jeanne. He is also survived by his sister Dorothy Young and her husband Davis. Other family members include a Grandson David Furdan and four Granddaughters: Angela Hie and her husband Matt, Amber Furden, Crystal Cairns and Tiffany Cairns. Also survived by two Great Grandsons, Vincent Haupin, and Fisher Hie, and three Great Granddaughters, Kaylee, Morgan, and Mackenzie Hie. Ken is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Ken was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Geneva Cairns, and a brother Charles Cairns.

A Memorial Service will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017 at the Stetson Baptist Church of DeLand, 1025 West Minnesota Ave., DeLand, FL 32720. In lieu of flowers, donations can graciously be made to the Stetson Baptist Church Building Fund in the name of Kenneth T. Cairns. His family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for the sympathetic, comforting words, prayers and all expressions of kindness and concern. May God continue to bless you.
