Memorial service for Mrs. Kathryn K. Johnson 90 of White Street in Daytona will be held on Tuesday (TODAY) at 11:00 am in the chapel of Baggett & Summers funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Smith officiating. Her family will receive friends from 10:30 am till time of service. Kathryn passed away peacefully on Saturday in her home. Born in Olar SC she has been a resident of this area since 1953. Kathryn graduated from Mainland High School in 1935 and received her nursing certificate in 1939 in Columbia South Carolina. She was an Army veteran of WW II serving in the Nurses Corp from 1942 till 1945 achieving the rank of 1st Lt. She was a registered nurse at Halifax Medical Center from 1953 until her retirement in 1978. She worked as head nurse at the Daytona International Speedway from 1959 until her retirement in 1995. Kathryn was an avid Atlanta Braves fan enjoyed watching Jeopardy the Wheel of Fortune and supporting FSU Football. She had a special place in her heart for all of the NASCAR drivers and especially the Petty Allison and Waltrip families. She shared her love of sewing and crafts with her family and friends. Her independent spirit her special love of people and her talent for giving will be missed by many.
Kathryn was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Nick Kirkland and Tony Kirkland 6 sisters: Mary Kirkland Sara Gary Ione Odom Harriet Gilmore Carolyn Wehner Lura Kester and her special friend Elizabeth Petty. She is survived by her son and daughter in law Bill and Jan Johnson of Sneads FL. her granddaughter Sarah Kathryn Johnson many nieces nephews and friends.
