Obituary

ANDREWS, Kathleen A.
June 24, 1947 ~ August 6, 2023

Kathleen A. Andrews of Port Orange, Florida passed away on Sunday August 6, 2023. Kathleen was born on June 24th, 1947 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts to Raphael and Kathleen Solomito. She earned her teaching degree from Anna Maria College in Paxton, Massachusetts and her Master's Degree from Fitchburg State College. She taught elementary school for 3 years and then became the guidance counselor for the city of Fitchburg Elementary School for 30 years.

Kathleen was predeceased by her beloved husband of 33 years, Dr. John T. Andrews. Kathleen and John were former members of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church where they served on the Bereavement Ministry until they joined the Church of the Epiphany where she served with the prayer group and the Ministry of the Sick. Being a devout Catholic and giving communion to those who were housebound gave her immense joy and fulfillment! She also volunteered with Hospice of Volusia/Flagler for several years. Kathleen was a very giving person who would go out of her way to do God's work. She later met James M. Shidel who became her travel companion and very dear friend. She was a great lover of all animals, especially birds. Gypsy, one of her 11 birds, held a special place in her heart.

She was predeceased  by her brother Joseph. She is survived by her brother Raphael (Buddy) Solomito, his wife Barbara, sister-in-law Susan Andrews, sister-in-law Claire Lonsdale, several nieces and nephews, her dear friend Dr. Timothy McNeil and her very dear caregivers Jodi, Nicole, Tina and Denise.
