Captain Karl Leroy Keay USNRet -
In loving memory of our husband father and grandfather who passed away on the 7th day of August 2007. Karl was born June 29 1936 in Albion Maine to Helen Sanderson Keay and Roy Edward Keay of Albion ME. He attended Public school in Albion graduating from Besse High School in 1955. He continued his education graduating from the United States Naval Academy in 1959 followed by a Masters Degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. During Karl's 31-year career in the Navy he served as a Salvage Diver during the Vietnam War in 1967 the last Chief Engineer on the USS Franklin Roosevelt Aircraft Carrier and Commanding Officer of Naval Ship Repair Facility in Subic Bay Philippines. He also served several assignments in Washington DC. His final tour was with the Commander US Naval Air Force Pacific Fleet in San Diego before retiring in June of 1990. Karl and his wife Gloria relocated to Daytona Beach Shores FL in 1991 where he spent 17 years as a tax preparer and manager at H&R Block. For 23 years Karl and Gloria spent the summers in Colonial Beach VA. He is survived by his loving wife Gloria; sisters Kay Sawtelle of Albion ME and Liz Flynn of Elkton MD; son David Keay of Fernandina Beach FL; daughter Debbie Bohl of Greensboro NC; stepson Scott Walton of Tampa FL; grandchildren Alex Bohl and Kasey Bohl of Greensboro NC and Zachary Walton of Alexandria VA. Karl loved playing golf traveling and watching his favorite team: the Boston Red Sox. Please join family and friends for a Celebration of Life to be held at Lohman Funeral Home 1201 Dunlawton Ave Port Orange FL Saturday August 11 2007 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Halifax Medial Center Foundation Inc. Attention: Oncology Fund 303 N. Keay will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery on Tuesday November 13th at 1:00pm.
