Karen Ann Shanahan, at age 80 of Ormond Beach, Florida passed away peacefully on May 10th, 2025. Karen was preceded in death by her late husband Vice Admiral John J. Shanahan and her parents (Pops and Mary Warden).
Karen was born in Pueblo, Colorado and raised in Florida and Virginia. Her professional career landed her in the Washington DC area from 1962 through 1975. Karen served as the Executive Assistant to the Honorable Paul Sitton, Deputy Under Secretary at the US Department of Transportation; Honorable Lowell Bridwell as the Administrator of the Federal Highway Administration; and assistant to Mr. Frank Barton, Vice President of Southern Railway System. Karen served as Office Manager for The Toilets Good Association and Executive Assistant to Robert Aders, President of Food Marketing Institute until her retirement. Karen and Jack retired to Ormond Beach, and after arriving Karen became a member of a variety of charity organizations and served as a board member on many committees.
Karen is survived by her stepchildren Gay and Kevin Dameron of Palm Coast, Florida and daughter Jessica Floyd of San Antonio, Texas; Julie and Mel Ugaitafa in Palm Coast, Florida and their children Shannon and Rachel; David and Trish Shanahan in St. Petersburg, Florida and their children and grandchildren Kyle and Barbie Shanahan and daughter McKenna, Katie Shanahan Ihnen and her husband Joel Ihnen, Moira and Vasilis Andreou and their sons Andreas Andreou and Jason and Megan Andreou and their son Parker, and stepson Tim Shanahan. Other family survivors include her niece Kelly and Mark Marshall and their children Heather and Matthew Bosserman and their three daughters Elina, Irelyn and Everly of Staunton, Virgina; and Melody and Brian Helmick from Waynesboro, Virginia. Karen's other niece Marcie and Keith Bruckschen in Apollo Beach, Florida and their two sons Zachary in Front Royal, Virginia and Logan in Wesley Chapel, Florida.
