Obituary

Kamal T. Zakhary ("Kim T. 'Zak' Zachary")
April 28, 1939 – September 11, 2025

Kamal T. Zakhary, lovingly known as "Kim T. Zachary or "Zak," passed away peacefully on the morning of September 11, 2025, at the age of 86. Surrounded by his children in Port Orange, Florida, he left this world as he lived—with strength, dignity, and love for his family.

Born in Cairo, Egypt, Kamal immigrated to the United States at the age of 19 to pursue his education at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. He played soccer and worked to put himself through school. With courage and determination, he built a remarkable life, embodying the American dream through his entrepreneurial spirit and relentless work ethic.

Kamal was an accomplished businessman, owning and managing numerous hotels and restaurants throughout his career. Later in life, he became a familiar and respected face in the automotive world, serving as a top salesman at Gary Yeomans Ford where he worked for over 30 years. He was also a proficient translator of the Arabic language, bridging cultures with his skill and insight. His charisma, honesty, and gift for connecting with people left a lasting impression on colleagues and customers alike.

Above all, Kamal was a devoted father, grandfather, and family man. He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly; his son, Jason; and his stepdaughter, Pamela. He leaves behind eight beloved grandchildren—Rebekah, Nathanael, Jasmine, Jordan, Jonothan, Glenn, Joseph, and Travis (Chattanooga)—along with countless additional grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry forward his memory. He is also remembered fondly by many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Kamal was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley; his parents, Reverend Tanios and Amina Zakhary; his siblings Joseph, Evone, and Victor; as well as many other cherished family members who welcomed him home.

Kamal will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments but also for his humor, warmth, faith, and unwavering love for those closest to him. To his family, he was more than a father and grandfather—he was their hero.

A viewing for friends and family will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Lohman Funeral Home in Port Orange, Florida. A funeral service will follow on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster by the Sea Presbyterian Church.

Kimberly and Jason wish to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Magdy Zakhary and Cari Britt for their devoted presence and care in Kamal's final days.
