Obituary

June Clover Byrne, age 82, of Ormond Beach, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2023 at Halifax Hospice. She was predeceased by her adoptive parents Ray and Ella Courter. She is survived by her husband, Alan Byrne, her son, Bradley Byrne, grandson, Dawnivan Byrne and her daughter, Bonnie, son-in-law, Larry, and grand-daughters, Stella and Chloe Holland.
June was born in Kansas City, MO and adopted at birth. She was brought up in Wichita, Kansas and attended Wichita State University where she met Alan and they were married in 1960. June graduated from Arizona State University with a bachelor's degree in Secondary Education. She had several adventures teaching in various countries such as Germany, Iran and Japan. One interesting position was at the Fort Leavenworth Kansas military disciplinary barracks (prison) teaching remedial English to prisoners with reading degrees varying from first grade to fourth grade. When she left a year later, the minimum reading grade of the students was at the tenth grade level.
She obtained her Master's Degree in Education from Boston University as a remedial reading teacher. BU was so impressed with her they offered to pay her tuition for a Doctorate degree, and guaranteed her a job after completion but the Army again reassigned them to Japan for 3 years. She soon was hired at a Japanese Women's College to teach Advanced English.
She started her interest with genealogy working for a Private Investigating Agency looking for missing heirs and was quite successful in finding them. She published several newsletters and books such as a Handbook for Genealogical Research in Central Florida. She also taught genealogy classes and was asked to speak throughout Florida.
In 1995 she volunteered at the local Family History Center even though she was not a member of the LDS. Upon leaving years later, they honored her for her outstanding contributions to the organization.
In 2013, she joined the non-profit DNAAdoption.org group, where she developed the skills to be able to identify her own birth family. She stayed in the group to help others and help the group develop classes. She was a member of the first board and for years was a very active Search Angel.
She also was the club manager, lead teacher, and head director at the Daytona Beach Metro Bridge Club, a major bridge club in Daytona Beach, Florida as well as being a Silver Life Master bridge player.
