Marilyn June Benjamin 81 "Queen of the Purple Rose" and long-time resident of Cassadaga FL passed away on February 28 2010. She was born on June 25 1928 in Landsdowne Maryland and raised 6 children. June was a member of a rare breed: self-taught well-read brilliant well-spoken creative and always had a new joke to tell on a daily basis. She was truly one of the most liked human beings of all time. She celebrated each day and had a true inspirational love of life. June lived the last 28 years in Cassadaga Florida doing what she loved most. She was a licensed hypnotist ordained minister of spiritualism psychic medium teacher healer and owner of "The Purple Rose" in Cassadaga. She had an extraordinary number of friends of all types who will miss her dearly. She "shined like the sun" and will always remain "Queen of the Purple Rose". A Memorial Service will be held on March 21 2010 in Cassadaga. Call the Purple Rose at 386-228-3315 for details. Left to cherish her memory are her husband David; son Jessie Helms and his wife Bonnie of Maryland; daughters Sylvia Bryant of Maryland Valli Lafferty and her husband Chris; cousin Gene Thompson of Salem VA ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter Katherine Hazel Green Montgomery and son Vann Irwin Helms Jr. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in her name to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation 1850 Lee Road Suite 111 Winter Park FL 32789.
