Dr. Judith Ann Lightner Moore died Saturday Feb. 9 2008 at Halifax Medical Center. She was a reading and English professor at Daytona Beach Community College (DBCC) and a loving wife and mother. A memorial service will be announced for a later date. Judy was born to John and Evelyn Lightner in Webb City Missouri. She graduated from Southwest Missouri State University and proceeded to earn two masters degrees including her M.Ed. from Southern Illinois University. She earned her Doctorate in Education from the University of Florida and also studied English literature abroad at Cambridge University in England. Her love of teaching spanned over forty years and included an eighteen-year career at DBCC after moving to this area twenty years ago from Oklahoma with her husband Larry. While residing in both the Midwest and Florida Judy was extremely active in the League of Women Voters. She served as the League president in Oklahoma and served three terms as President of the League in Volusia County. Judy is survived by her husband Louis (Larry) of 44 years; her daughter Shannon and son-in-law Ralph Syverson of Chicago IL; her brother John Lightner Jr. and sister-in-law Loretta of Joplin MO; and her niece and nephew Debra Sarmiento and Kevin Lightner.
